Alas and alack, another summer come and gone, which means that here in Los Angeles, we only have two more months of blazing heat until fall. But we have an amazing show this month! From Turner Classic Movies, Ben Mankiewicz is here. Ben is smart, funny, knows everyone in show business, comes from a family of Hollywood royalty and DC political insiders. Talk about connected. What’s he doing here, you might ask? Well, he thought he was doing WTF. No, I’m just kidding. Ben’s a friend. Also, speaking of friends, from The Simpsons, the author of the new behind the scenes book about The Simpsons, Springfield Confidential, Mr. Mike Reiss is here.
As for me, oh Lord. As I record this we are putting season 3 of Stan Against Evil to bed. If you’re not caught up, Season 2 premiered on HULU on August 17th. Season 3 premieres on IFC on October 31st, Halloween night.
Fans of the show on the east coast can see me, John McGinley and Janet at our panel at the New York ComiCon on Thursday, October 4th. The following night, Friday, October 5th, I’ll be performing live at the Norwood Theater in Norwood, Mass. For tickets, just go to the Performing Live page.
I’ll be back on the road again like a normal comedian in November, with appearances in Atlanta and Minneapolis.
Also, I have a graphic novel coming out on August 28th. About a year ago, I was approached by the good people at Boom! Comics and was asked if I would consider adapting Rod Serling’s first draft screenplay of Planet Of The Apes as a graphic novel. Now, the first draft of the screenplay is very different from the movie as we know it. It’s much closer to the book. It’s more of a satire and a political thriller than anything else, the apes live in a big modern city, sort of a simian New York, but it’s a simian New York from the mid-sixties when it was written. So try to imagine Charlton Heston trapped in an episode of Mad Men that is cast with gorillas, chimps and orangutans, and you’re getting close. Anyway, it came out really well and it’s in stores August 28th.
But why go to the store when you can get it on Amazon right now!
But seriously, it’s a great, fun read, a must have for Apes fans, and I’m crazy proud to have my name on the same piece of paper as Rod Serling’s. Obviously. If you live in the Los Angeles area I’ll be signing on August 28th at Dark Delicacies Bookstore in Burbank, CA., and on September 6th at Barnes and Noble at The Grove.

Also, come October, on October 10th I’ll be at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica for a very special event. It’s Ed Wood’s birthday! And we’ll be screening both Ed Wood’s Plan 9 From Outer Space and Tim Burton’s Ed Wood. I’ll be moderating a panel featuring Ed Wood screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, the man who turned Martin Landau into Bela Lugosi for the film, Mr. Rick Baker, Misfits and Monsters creator Bobcat Goldthwait and possible, other nerds.
The following night, Oct. 11th, only at Largo in Los Angeles Ca. A live stage reading of Ed Wood’s Plan 9 From Outer Space, featuring me, Bobcat Goldthwiat, David Koechner, Janet varney, Laraine Newman, Kevin MacDonald, Matt Braunger, Rob Zabrecky, Ron Lynch, Nate Mooney, Deborah Baker Jr., Ken Daly and G Charles Wright with love music from Eban Schletter and a special appearance by The Poubelle Twins.
For these, and all other details, please, please, please go to the Live Appearance page.
